8 Reasons Rabbits Make Amazing House Pets

In case you’re on the fence about adopting a rabbit, or you’re just convinced a pet rabbit would not be a great house pet, consider the following 10 reasons a house bun is such a great house pet:

  1. They’re cute. And fluffy. What’s not to love about that??

  2. They use a litter box! If you have a bun that needs litter trained, or you want tips for you bun to be, check out my tips for quick and easy litter box training.

  3. They are good for your health. Having a pet helps significantly lower blood pressure and ease stress or anxiety.

  4. Someone to cuddle with on the couch (or floor). Most pet rabbits are social and like to be around people, and they also show affection toward their humans.

  5. Built-in security system. Your bun will thump to alert you to ‘danger’ (even if it is the garbage truck emptying your trash outside).

  6. They’re entertaining. Rabbits love to play and will often toss their toys around, and they will even play hide and seek with you!

  7. They have major personality. Every rabbit is different, and it’s really fun getting to know your rabbit as you bond with him - favorite foods, favorite toys, the look of disapproval you receive when you feed her later than usual, etc.

  8. You can have more than a decade with your rabbit companion. If a rabbit has been neutered/spayed, is kept safely indoors and eats a proper diet, they can live to be 10-13 years old!

There are more reasons, but these are my top 8! If you have a bun, tell me your top reason for having one in the comments below. :)

P.S. I dressed Oliver and Delilah up for Halloween. Oliver left the high seas to eat and poop in his litterbox. Delilah was a raging dinosaur.
